Passing through the velvet curtains and seeing the crystal chandeliers immediately suggests that this is one of the most expensive choices in Bairro Alto - but it is also one of the city's leading restaurants. A favorite among most locals, it takes its name from a specialty dish - a soupy bread and seafood mixture.
It is in Rua da Atalaia 57 in Bairro Alto!

The chef is still Bosnian-born Ljubomir Stanisic, who presents some of the most creative dishes in Lisbon (a famous one is pieces of cod arriving at your table hanging from clothespins). All of the ingredients are fresh, bought on the same day at the city's Ribeira Market. The dishes are therefore always different every day and you can try them in reasonably-priced tasting menus.
It is in R. do Teixeira 35.

This warehouse conversion is the trendiest and most talked about of all Lisbon restaurants, gaining fame for its owner, actor John Malkovich (who also owns club Lux next door). The moneyed and the fashionable dine in a sleek interior with minimalist decor and stunning river views, choosing from a menu of modern Portuguese, Mediterranean and other European dishes. Of course... it is expensive. Very.

It is in Av. Infante Dom Henrique - Cais da Pedra a Santa Apolónia, Armazém B.

Discover Portugal's oldest and most famous brewery.  This 19th century beer house-restaurant is renowned as much for its traditional Portuguese cuisine as for its lovely tile panels depicting the seasons and the elements.  It is very popular with both locals and tourists, who quickly fill the dining room and outside patio. Arrive early or expect to stand in line for a while.

It is in R. Nova da Trindade 20, inbetween Chiado and Bairro Alto.

Restaurante 560

The number 560 on a bar code lets customers know they’re buying a Portuguese product, and that has inspired a new restaurant in Lisbon’s Bairro Alto which serves contemporary Portuguese dishes made with traditional flavors. Restaurant 560 offers a variety of appetizers before an even number of meat and fish choices, as well as a vegetarian option.

It is in Rua das Gáveas 78, in the heart of Bairro Alto.

Sky Bar (and more rooftop bars)

Do check this link... it will cause an impression!
It was one of the most talked-about bars last summer and it’s back this year. The views alone are worth a visit, but then there is also a good variety of cocktails (including a couple of non-alcoholic choices), soups, salads, wraps and noodles. It’s found at the top of the Tivoli Lisboa Hotel and it’s especially recommended late in the afternoon, staying for a light dinner as the sun sets followed by late-night cocktails.

Casas de Fado

Check this link, to see fado restaurants

Come in, and hear Fado. Fado is a very traditional Portuguese music,  full of sadness and soul.
There are many Fado Houses in Lisbon. We found a web site, even in english, with  a lot of them! Do take a look, see if you like anything... it will be an experience you cannot really have any place else!
We suggest you to choose one of Alfama's restaurants!

Alfama Neighbourhood

Alfama is on the bottom of the cliff where the S. Jorge Castle is. It is a charmining area of Lisbon, looking more like a small country town and part of a big city. You will find the old vizinhas speaking on the street and the birds hanging on a window... do go there! It is a great place to find a Casa de Fado! Don't be surprised to find many many tourists....

Bairro Alto Neighbourhood

Either for the shopping, eating or going out we are sure you will be passing by this area... Choose any place to eat! Of course... you will hear a lot of english speaking, but don't worry... you will hear a lot of portuguese speaking too!

Docas Area

Docas is the area "under the bridge". Literally, it is under the big red Lisbon bridge. There are many restaurants and bars here, choose one!
